Debate club is a great opportunity for a wide range of students, not just those who already love to argue or speak in front of crowds. If you're wondering whether debate is right for you, consider the following types of people who would benefit most from joining: The Outspoken and Opinionated If you have strong opinions and enjoy sharing them, debate gives you a constructive outlet. You'll learn to support your views with evidence and express them clearly, without turning every conversation into an argument. The Quiet but Thoughtful Debate isn’t just for loud voices. It’s also for deep thinkers. If you’re the kind of person who prefers to listen, analyze, and respond carefully, debate can help you build the confidence to speak up while using your natural strengths logic and reflection. Future Leaders and Professionals Whether you want to be a lawyer, politician, journalist, teacher, or business leader, communication is key. Debate teaches you how to speak clearly, think on your feet, and persuade others—skills that are invaluable in almost every career. Problem-Solvers and Critical Thinkers Debate trains you to look at issues from multiple sides. If you enjoy solving problems, spotting flaws in reasoning, or challenging assumptions, you'll find debate both mentally stimulating and satisfying. Students Looking to Boost Their Confidence Public speaking can be scary at first, but with practice, debate helps you overcome that fear. If you want to feel more comfortable speaking in class, presenting projects, or even just expressing yourself, debate can give you the tools and practice to do so. People Who Enjoy Competition and Teamwork Debate is a team activity with a competitive edge. If you like working with others toward a goal while testing your skills in tournaments or mock debates, this club will be a great fit. Anyone Willing to Learn You don’t need to be an expert speaker or know everything about politics or philosophy. All you need is a willingness to learn, an open mind, and a bit of courage to try something new. Debate club is a place to grow. If you’re curious, thoughtful, passionate, or just want to become a better communicator, you belong in debate club. It’s not about winning every argument—it’s about learning how to think, listen, speak, and grow. We will have two competitions throughout the year, we will consider a weekly dues payment system to cover travel expenses for these competitions .
