Weekly Update 2-1-26

Good evening Hornet Families,

This is Mrs. Rogers calling with your announcements for the week.

Parents, I want to thank you for your understanding, patience, and support as we navigated inclement weather and remote learning. While not an ideal situation, our students and staff did a wonderful job. As you know, GCS has announced that school will be closed for students on Monday, February 2nd. This means no class - in person or remotely. The district will continue to monitor conditions as they make decisions about upcoming school days.

We are currently working on rescheduling events from last week. We will share details as soon as they are available. Please monitor Class Dojo for quick updates.

As of now, the NWEA Map Assessments are scheduled for this week. When we return to the building, students will need to bring their devices, charged, if possible.

Students who missed work last week will need to request what they missed from their teacher.

Course registration for the 2026-2027 school year will begin soon. Students will complete academic advisement and course registration with their school counselor. Afterwards, parents will have the opportunity to approve the course selections. More information will be sent home soon.

This concludes our announcements for the week. Enjoy your evening and thank you for choosing The Academy at Lincoln.

Good evening Hornet families,

This is Mrs. Rogers calling with your updates for the week.

As you know, tomorrow is a teacher workday so there will be no school for students. A decision has not yet been made by the district for the remainder of the week. In preparation for potential inclement weather, students were sent home with their Chromebook. In the event we are remote, teachers will be on Teams for live instruction and support. Assignments and the daily schedule will be posted on Canvas.

Additionally, bus riders received a bus pass showing an alternate bus stop that could be used if the district implements a new limited-service bus plan. If your child did not receive a bus pass, you can log on to the Bus Planner Parent Portal at gcs.mybusplanner.com to access the information.

Continue to monitor official GCS communication via the local news, the GCS website and official social media sites for updates. We thank you for your understanding as we navigate these variables together.

Continue to stay safe and warm. Enjoy your evening and thank you for choosing The Academy at Lincoln.

Weekly Update 11-9-25

Good evening Hornet Families,

This is Mrs. Rogers calling with your updates for the week.

This week there will be no school on Tuesday, November 11th. On this day we will recognize Veteran's Day as we honor the people in our community who have served in the armed forces, their loyalty to our nation, and their willingness to fight and die for us.

Report cards will be sent home with students on Thursday, November 13th. Report cards will not be emailed to families as they have been in the past. Please remember to ask your student to share their report card with you on Thursday.

Last month all 7th graders completed the YouScience Career Assessments. These assessments administered as brain games are designed to uncover students' aptitudes and match them with best-fit, in-demand career and educational pathways. November is National Career Development Month, now is a great time to review your student's results and a great opportunity to have a discussion with your child about their future interests and talents. Please use the link below to learn how to access the results.

YouScience: Understanding YOUR Data

As a reminder Winter sports tryouts will begin November 17th. Students interested in playing basketball or wrestling should be sure to have an updated physical prior to tryouts beginning. Also remember, all students participating with a athletic team must pay the one-time yearly athletic fee of $45 once they have made a team. Students only have to pay once per school year, regardless of the number of sports played. Please see Mr. Jones, our athletic director for any questions.

With the upcoming winter months and holiday season, we want to take the time to ask our families about the holiday needs they may be facing. We recognize that some recent changes may be intensifying the concerns of our students and families, especially facing the concern of food insecurity. While we may not be able to assist with all needs of everyone, we want to do what we can to provide support and/or resources to our students and families in need. We ask that our families fill out this needs assessment to let us know where the needs are and how we can support.

Weekly Update 9-1-25

Good evening, Hornet Families.

This is Mrs. Rogers calling with your announcements for the week.

First, thank you for a wonderful opening week of school. Our students and staff are settling in, and we are off to an amazing year of learning and growth.

We ask for your continued patience with the car rider line. Each day the line moves a little faster. For safety reasons, please do not park in the front of the building and walk to the back to pick up your child, or have your child exit as a walker to meet you in the front. These practices create congestion on Lincoln Street and pose safety concerns. In addition, students should not be picked up on the Bluford or Dudley campuses. Being on those campuses without permission could result in trespassing charges. If you have questions about bus transportation, please visit the GCS Transportation page at gcsnc.com or call 888-511-4427.

The Dance Team will hold tryouts on Wednesday, September 3, immediately after school. Interested students should sign up outside the dance room or band room. Please see Ms. Damman for more details.

Colorguard tryouts will also be on Wednesday, September 3. Students must sign up outside the band room and pick up an audition form from Mrs. Whitley in order to participate.

Finally, we wish all of our Hornet families a safe and enjoyable Labor Day. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school bright and early tomorrow morning.

This concludes our announcements for the week. As always, thank you for choosing The Academy at Lincoln—a great place to be.

Weekly Update 8-24-25

Good evening Hornet Families,

This is Mrs. Rogers calling with your updates for the week.

The first day of school is here! Tomorrow we will open our doors to our students for the 2025-26 school year at 8:50AM. We are excited to see all of our Hornets, new and returning, as we keep climbing to success. I know this year we are going to accomplish great and amazing things.

Parents please be patient as the car rider line will be long as everyone gets used to the process. Elementary parents, you can pick up your car rider sign in the line in the morning and one will be sent home with your student as well. Attached to the email version of this message is a visual of the car rider line. If your student is a walker, please remind them to remain off of Dudley and Bluford campuses. Students are not permitted to loiter or be picked up in these locations. If students need to wait for a family member at Dudley, they should remain on our front porch until Dudley dismisses. Bus riders are reminded to be patient as well, as drivers and students adjust to the routes.

As a reminder all students receive free breakfast and lunch. We encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity.

7th grade families, please remember to send in a copy of the most recent immunization records that include doses of the TdAP and MCV. All records must be received by the 30th day of school.

This concludes our announcements for the week. Enjoy the remainder of your evening and thank you for choosing The Academy at Lincoln, a great place to be.
